EA Announces new scholarships at their open house
Electronic Arts announced it’s ongoing support of the Masters of Digital Media (MDM) Program with new entrance scholarships. The two scholarships for gifted students with a passion for digital media are each worth $20,000 and are designated for students beginning their studies in September 2009. All MDM applicants will be considered for this generous opportunity provided they submit their application before the March 31 deadline. FULL STORY

International contest to offer $1,000 entrance scholarship for best game design
The Centre kicked off its first international game design contest at the "A Taste of MDM" workshop on March 2. Open to applicants to the MDM Program, the contest invites submissions for the best board game design based on a game theme developed at the workshop.
With over 25 participants, the workshop began with a snapshot of the digital media industry by Academy Award winner and industry heavyweight Glenn Entis, and President of New Media BC Kenton Low. Award-winning faculty member Jeremy Gibson then hosted an interactive lecture on game design.
A podcast of the workshop will be available March 19.

MDM games nominated for Elans, International Awards in Video Games, Animation and Visual Effects
Deguiyu (pronounced De-gwai-yu) and The Booty Bandit, two Masters of Digital Media (MDM) Program projects, were nominated for this year’s Elans in the Student Video Game category. The Elans is an international awards show that recognizes and honours the best in Video Games, Animation and Visual Effects. Winners will be announced on April 25. FULL STORY

MDM team selected as finalist for Innovative Development Lab
Project: Foreshadow was among five finalists chosen to compete for a $10,000 development award offered through the Digital Development Lab. The Lab, open to British Columbia producers, is designed to support the creation of new internet activities and original interactive entertainment, and is made possible by grants from the CBC Regional Program Development Fund and BC Film with support from New Media BC and the Centre for Digital Media. Upcoming MDM Program open house to stream live online
Interested in applying or just want to learn more about the Masters of Digital Media Program? Join us on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2009 for a special Open House at the Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver. There will be samples of student work, tours and information on the application process.
This event will also be broadcast live online and at the Virtual Centre for Digital Media in Second Life. The MDM Program will be providing other live webinars in the coming weeks and months - check the MDM website for updates.

MASTERS OF DIGITAL MEDIA PROGRAM

The MDM Program is a 20-month professional graduate degree jointly awarded by the four major public post-secondary institutions in Vancouver, Canada - the University of British Columbia; Simon Fraser University; Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
This innovative program provides our students with practical team-based experience through industry-relevant curriculum and real-world industry-funded projects.
Students work together to develop essential team-building, communications, and project management skills, preparing them for careers as creators, practitioners and senior managers in the rapidly-growing video game and digital media industry.
